Karee Powers, LCSW
I specialize in helping adults and adolescents who are struggling through difficult life situations. My hope is that my clients will begin to emerge from the experience with strength, insight and a sense of empowerment to address the next challenge with grace. Using a strengths-based approach, I employ concepts of cognitive therapy and mindfulness to increase self-awareness and choice within life's challenges. I also use EMDR, an evidence-based approach, to help release the impact of past experiences on current emotions, thoughts and behaviors including traumatic events and childhood trauma.
I have extensive experience working with complex trauma, combat trauma, sexual trauma and grief, depression, and anxiety. I have specialized training in resolving addictive and compulsive behavior with EMDR and using EMDR with children. I work best with clients who are looking to move forward and are motivated to make positive changes in their lives.

Life can sometimes knock us off of our feet and sometimes we can forget the hows and whys of getting back up. Counseling can be an excellent support in this process of remembering your innate strengths and resiliency. In my practice, I strive to create an open safe space for you to explore your life challenges and navigate towards your peace.
With a focus on compassion and empathy, I have worked with people from many walks of life struggling with chronic illness, grief and loss, women's issues, and LGBT issues. I have nearly 10 years of experience working in palliative care and I am very familiar with issues facing those with serious medical illnesses.
